George Wallner, AA7JV

George was born in Hungary in 1951.  After studying electrical engineering he joined the military in 1970.  George served in a number of overseas postings as a radio operator and communications specialist.  Moved to Australia in 1973 where he founded Hypercom Corporation in 1978.  The company developed the Asia/Pacific region's first card payment terminals and support networks.  He served in various roles, including CEO, Chairman and Chief Technologist.  The company was relocated to the USA in 1988. 

By 1997 Hypercom became the leading global vendor of card payment terminals and went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 1997.  Credited with inventing the POS card reading terminal, George Wallner has over 20 patents and was named by the Nielson Report as one of the most influential persons in electronic payments.  Retired from Hypercom in 2004.  George came out of retirement in 2007 to co-found Roam Data, a specialist in mobile transaction processing.  Roam Data was sold to Ingenico in 2012.  In 2013 founded LoopPay, a company focused on mobile payments and electronic wallets where George is Chief Technology Officer.

An active amateur radio operator since 1966: ex-HA7YPA, VK2NU and now AA7JV.  Main interests are low band CW operation and expeditions to very difficult entities located on small islands and reefs.  He led successful DXpeditions to Willis Islets (Australia), Serrana Bank (Colombia), Mellish Reef (Coral Sea), Chesterfield Reef (Coral Sea) and St. Peter & St. Paul Rocks (Atlantic, Brazil).  All these operations were undertaken to extremely hard to reach and difficult locations using minimum equipment and personnel.

Other hobbies include boating, diving and ocean paddle-boarding.  George lives in Miami with one son.
