Joseph Lipa, N8OY is a 2010 graduate of Saline High School in Saline, Michigan. He carried a 4.085 GPA and was ranked 7th in a class of 458.
His academic performance was awarded the Gold Honor Roll for four years and the National Honor Society. He received the Spanish Award and the Michigan Interscholastic Press Award for writing. An accomplished musician, Joe plays both the piano and violin.
He earned a varsity letter in cross-country and track. He is an active volunteer at his church. Joe holds an Extra class Amateur Radio license and is an ARRL member as well as a member of FIST and World Wide Young Contesters (WWYC).
He was recognized by the Great Lakes Division as Youth Ham of the Year in 2009. He radio operations are primarily CW as he chases DX and just recently applied for DXCC.
He currently holds WAS for CW and WAC for CW and phone. Joe anticipates pursuing a degree in mathematics at the University of Michigan with an eye to a career as a statistician or actuary.
